In the part of Scotland I am from, music comes from the land and the musical pedigree is in the genes.
For many generations my folks were farming in South Ayrshire with its rich tradition in songs, poetry and music. I’m very proud that in the 1780s my 4 x great grandfather William Sloan was Robert Burns plough guide at Mossgiel Farm when Scotland’s most famous son was writing some of his most famous lines.
Later in the 1930s, my grandfather was the original copyright holder of the 20th century classic ‘Harbour Lights’, so memorably recorded by Elvis, The Platters, Dinah Washington and Bing Crosby.
Here is world class soil for music. South Ayrshire looks outwards, not just to Ireland but over to North America. Our history is made up of tales of adventure, of putting out to sea and soaking up new ideas and new sounds.
The Celtic American influences of my own music are part of this heritage, whether I am writing rock, folk, or country. Feedback from the music community around the world has been wonderful, and I hope that you too enjoy listening.
